Refresh Your Grout in One Hour: Grout Renew Application

I can’t believe we’ve been in our current house for over two years. In a way, it feels like we just moved in here. It was our first single family home. We love having a spacious, private backyard for the kids. We love having an in-house washer & dryer to make laundry day a breeze. We also love our family-friendly neighborhood. However, there has always been one thing that bothered me about this place…

The tile floor in the kitchen has seen better days. To be clear, the tiles themselves are in good condition, as in there are no cracks, chips, etc (although I probably would have chosen another color for the tiles). However, the overall floor in the kitchen has been a bit (a lot!) of an eyesore, mainly due to the condition of the grout.

The grout has been quite dingy and discolored since we moved in here. However, it has always been pushed down on our list of things to do: install fence, remodel the master bath, paint the walls, upgrade the kitchen appliances, etc.

We recently tackled the kitchen grout issue using Grout Renew. This product is a highly-pigmented liquid solution that looks & acts like grout once fully dry! It only took a few hours to do this update (it can be done in one hour if you have a smaller space). I can’t wait to share with you the transformation we were able to achieve using one bottle that cost less than $10.

Not pretty, right? Actually, this is downright embarrassing, but I’m keeping it real for my readers.

If you’d like to tackle this project for yourself, here are some tips on how to achieve a professional finish that will last:

• Use a toothbrush or stiff paintbrush to apply the solution. Alternatively, you can order the bottle that comes with a special applicator. However, we were able to make a toothbrush work well for us.
• Be sure to work on a small area at a time (maybe 18″x18″). Apply the solution over this area, use the toothbrush to spread it out over all the grout lines, and then clean up any overspill that lands on the tile.
• Be sure to wipe up any solution that gets on the tile before it dries. Once dry, it becomes very, very difficult to remove the solution from the tile.
• Choose a grout color that closely matches the original grout color of your floor.
• Keep the grout and tile area free of any moisture or liquids for at least a few days after application of Grout Renew.
• It’s a good idea to seal the grout lines after the solution is fully dry to keep the grout from getting easily stained.
