One of my favorite traditions that my family and I do regularly is get together and have a movie night at home. We absolutely love gathering around the TV, enjoying the some delicious snacks and watching a fabulous movie together. Now that my kids are getting a bit older, they are really enjoying this tradition, too. Recently, we celebrated a movie night together, as my kids were really looking forward to watching Finding Dory together. Today, I will share the tutorial for making a DIY “Movie Night” Marquee Sign w/ Lights. I will also be sharing some of our other movie night essentials, such as snacks, drinks, and Kleenex.

Oh, and while you’re at the store, keep an eye out for the Kleenex® – Finding Dory Tissue Box Designs. It’s an adorable box that would be perfect for your movie night traditions. • wooden crate or shadow box
  • alphabet stencils
  • acrylic paint
  • paintbrush
  • battery-operated globe lights
  • paper (for backing of shadow box)
  • hot glue & glue gun
  • rhinestone ribbon
  • gold & silver foil washi tape

Start by using the stencils to trace the outline of your letters in pencil. I decided to use the phrase “MOVIE NIGHT”.

Next, grab the paintbrush & some paint to fill in the letters on the paper. I decided to use two different shades in the blue family, but you can customize the colors to your decor/preferences. Once the paint is fully dried, lightly erase any pencil marks that may remain.
*TIP: When painting, be sure to use a fine paintbrush and proceed slowly. Don’t worry about small imperfections – it adds to the character of the piece!

Use the gold & silver foil washi tape to add some bling to the sign! I simply added five horizontal strips of washi tape across the paper. I love the added glamour that this adds!

Speaking of bling, it’s time to spruce up the shadow box, which will become the base of the marquee sign. I took some rhinestone ribbon and attached it the front of the shadow box frame with some hot glue. My ribbon was 8 rhinestones wide, so I had to cut it lengthwise (only 4 rhinestones fit across the frame width).

Now, it’s time to add the globe lights to the shadow box. You have the option of attaching the lights to the front edge, inside edge or outside edge of the shadow box. I chose to use the front edge and I really love the way it turned out. I simply used some hot glue to attach the bulbs directly to the rhinestone ribbon.
*TIP: Depending on how many bulbs are on your string of lights and the size of your shadow box, plan out the placement so that the bulbs are evenly distributed across your shadow box.

What’s my favorite part of craft projects? Putting it all together! So simply slide the paper sign into the shadow box. Here is the final product!

Here it is in on the shelf in our movie room! Notice I placed it right next to a box of Kleenex. We love that Kleenex is soft, strong and absorbent. It’s definitely a movie night must-have for all those sniffly, sad scenes.

Last week, I picked up this great value of Kleenex from BJ’s Wholesale Club. It comes with 10 boxes, each of which has 160 2-ply tissues! I try to stock up on Kleenex Everyday Tissues to make sure I always have these on hand for family & friends throughout the year.

I love that each box is decorative on the outside so I can leave them out and they look fabulous in my home. In fact, I use these tissues many times throughout each day. These tissues are perfect for makeup mishaps, flu season sneezes, kid’s messy faces, and so much more. I love that I can use just one tissue and then throw it away.

Each tissue is both soft and strong! With the 2-ply thickness, these absorbent tissues lock in moisture very well.

I actually keep a box in multiple locations, including the kitchen, the bathroom, the garage, the car, the desk, etc. When it comes to sharing, one individual tissue is all it takes to show someone you care. Share your tissues with a friend or stranger today!

What else did we use for our movie night? Well, of course, snacks are another must-have item. I like to make things feel more festive by using cute containers, like this retro one for the popcorn. Crunchy pretzels are another movie night favorite in our house.

There’s something about cuddling up and being cozy while watching a movie with family. So I always have on hand a nice collection of throws & pillows to make sure everyone stays warm and comfortable during the movie.

We can’t have all those savory, crunchy snacks without drinks. So I poured myself a nice glass of sparkling flavored water, while my daughters drank some lemon-flavored water in their straw cups. Yes, my 3 and 5 year old have developed a taste for fruit-infused water! I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!  🙂

Finding Dory was such a fabulous movie and we all enjoyed spending time together watching the movie.
